What is schema markup?

Schema markup is structured data you add to your HTML that helps search engines understand your content. It uses a standardized vocabulary from schema.org to describe things like businesses, products, articles, and FAQs. When Google understands your content better, it can display rich results — star ratings, FAQ dropdowns, and business info directly in search results.

What is JSON-LD and why is it recommended?

JSON-LD (JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data) is Google's recommended format for structured data. Unlike Microdata or RDFa, JSON-LD sits in a script tag in your page's head — it doesn't mix with your HTML, making it easier to add, maintain, and debug. Google Search Central explicitly recommends JSON-LD.

Which schema types are most important for SEO?

The most impactful schema types are: LocalBusiness (for local search and Google Business Profile), FAQPage (for FAQ rich results), Article (for news and blog content), Product (for e-commerce rich results with pricing), and HowTo (for step-by-step rich results). Where do I paste the generated JSON-LD code?

Paste the JSON-LD script block in the <head> section of your HTML page, before the closing </head> tag. You can also place it in the <body>, but the head is the standard convention. If you're using WordPress, add it via a plugin like Rank Math, or paste it in your theme's header template.
