When to choose Technical over SEO Audit.

The SEO Audit is broader and right for most engagements. The Technical Audit is the right call when you suspect — or already know — that the bottleneck is technical: pages Googlebot can't render, schema errors blocking rich results, slow Core Web Vitals demoting you, hreflang chaos, server log evidence of crawl budget waste, or a site architecture that buries important pages five clicks deep.

Common triggers: you're on a complex platform (Magento, Shopify Plus, Salesforce Commerce, Sitecore, Adobe Experience Manager, headless setups), you have a JavaScript-heavy site (React/Vue/Next.js/Nuxt) and content isn't ranking, you're planning a migration or replatform, you have multi-region/multi-language URLs, or you've published great content for months without ranking and don't know why.

What's included

Technical audit deliverables.

  • Full crawl audit — Screaming Frog + Sitebulb, every URL state, redirect chains, canonical conflicts
  • Indexation analysis — what's indexed vs what should be, removing index bloat, fixing exclusions
  • JavaScript rendering review — Googlebot vs user render diff, SSR/pre-render recommendations
  • Core Web Vitals deep dive — LCP, INP, CLS — with concrete fixes prioritised by impact
  • Structured data validation — every JSON-LD block tested in Rich Results Test, schema strategy
  • XML sitemap audit — accuracy, coverage, segmentation, submission verification
  • robots.txt review including AI crawler directives (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot)
  • hreflang validation for multi-region/multi-language sites
  • Canonical strategy — duplicate handling, parameters, pagination, faceted nav
  • Server log analysis for large sites — what Googlebot actually crawls vs what you want it to
  • Site architecture review — internal linking topology, click-depth, taxonomy
  • Migration risk assessment if applicable — redirect map, equity preservation plan

FAQ

Common technical audit questions.

How much does the Technical Audit cost?

All services start at $499 USD per month with a one-time $20 admin fee that is fully deductible from the first month invoice. The $20 admin fee is non-refundable. Minimum commitment is 3 months; 6-month and 12-month plans are available. We onboard a maximum of 5 clients per service category at a time. See the Hire Me page for full details.

Do you work with my dev team during the audit?

Yes. I prefer to ask clarifying questions early so the audit reflects how the site actually works (not just how it appears externally). A 30-min dev kickoff is usually enough. After delivery I can hand over tickets in your tracker so the dev team can execute fixes directly.

My site is on a JS framework. Can you handle it?

Yes — JS frameworks (React, Vue, Next.js, Nuxt, Remix, SvelteKit, Astro) are exactly where most generalists struggle. I check render diff, hydration mismatches, dynamic route indexation, and recommend SSR/SSG/pre-rendering where needed.

Will you actually fix the issues, or just list them?

The audit lists them with prioritisation and implementation specs (not just "you have a problem" — actual "here's the fix in code"). Execution is a separate engagement. Many clients hand the deliverable to their dev team. About 40% bring me on for execution.

How does this differ from a Lighthouse run?

Lighthouse is one input among many. The Technical Audit synthesises Lighthouse with Search Console data, server logs, real Googlebot crawl behaviour, schema validation, and architecture review. Lighthouse gives you a score; the audit gives you a strategy.

Can you audit before a migration?

Yes — this is one of the highest-value uses. Pre-migration audits prevent the typical "lost 30% of traffic in a week" disaster. Includes URL redirect map, equity preservation plan, staging validation checklist, and 90-day post-launch monitoring template.
